My top favorite - bar none! He was absolutely unique and there will never be another one like him!

The paucity of comments here betrays the absence of seniors who have registered for this website. This man was the most dapper, the coolest, the best male dancer ever to appear on the screen.

Astaire held good method in duration as a matinee star.

I believe he had one love in his life...his first wife Phyllis and the fact that he did not marry again until 1980 after his beloved Phyllis passed on in 1954 tells me that he really did not want to replace her. I think he needed companionship and I am glad he found that in his second wife, but I have no doubt he never loved as much as when he was with his beloved first wife and his children. He and Ginger made wonderful movies together, but he never loved anyone like his first wife! What a lucky woman she was!
