Lillian Yarbo was a competent African American actor and an attractive woman who appeared in nearly 50 films in the 1930s and 1940s, mostly as maids or other servants, and mostly uncredited. She had no chance to play the sort of roles Barbara Stanwyck or Lucille Ball or Katharine Hepburn were playing at the time; no film could ever end with her being kissed by James Stewart or riding off into the sunset with John Wayne. Unlike those stars, little is now known about her.
