Chanel No 5 was called Chanel No 5 because she had a taste for simplicity. Although the perfume itself is very complicated, Chanel wanted to avoid everything fancy when it came to her bottle and perfume name. So the bottle of chanel no 5 that we see now and its name were chosen by her for the simplicity of it.

chanel called the most famous perfume in the world no.5 because the person who sold her the perfume(which is now a family business and his family is currently running chanels fragrance line) was giving her samples and it was the fifth one in line, plus it was the fifht day of may and they did this transaction right before her fall/winter show. which was a huge success and is what started her career!

Biography

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971) was a French fashion designer and founder of the Chanel brand. She is the only fashion designer listed on Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. Along with Paul Poiret, Chanel was credited with liberating women from the constraints of the "corseted silhouette" and popularizing the acceptance of a sportive, casual chic as the feminine standard in the post-World War I era. A prolific fashion creator, Chanel's influence extended beyond couture clothing. Her design aesthetic was realized in jewelry, handbags, and fragrance. Her signature scent, Chanel No. 5, has become an iconic product.
