From Marie Helvin`s autobiography: "On one of my visits to Hawaii, the whole place was in uproar because Tom Selleck was there filming Magnum, P.I. We met - and I found myself very attracted to him. Certainly, his suave American charm seemed like the perfect antidote to Bailey. I stumbled; I fell; I had a fling with Magnum, P.I. I`ve always been a prodigious sleeptalker, giggling and telling stories all through the night. Now this habit got me into trouble. Back home in London, I was roused in the middle of the night by Bailey growling: "Who`s Tom? Marie, who`s this f***ing Tom character you keep talking about?" "Oh, you know," I said, giving an alibi that even now astounds me with its cheek: "Tom Thumb." Then Tom Selleck came to London. Our affair had been very much a Hawaiian fling, but I still agreed to have dinner with him and go back to his hotel. But when I got home, I felt unsettled. The next morning, I sent him a letter - by bike - saying that my marriage was breaking up and we ought to call it off. A week or so later, he happened to be taken backstage at the musical Cats, where he met his wife-to-be."
