Richard G. Pestell completed his M.D. (1981) and Ph.D. degrees in Australia. He undertook post doctoral and clinical training in Hematology/Oncology and Endocrinology and continued research at Harvard University and served as Clinical fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital . He was the recipient of the Royal Australian College of Physicians Winthrop and Neil Hamilton Fairley awards (1991–1994) . At Georgetown University he was Associate Vice President of Georgetown University Medical Center, Chairman of the Department of Oncology, and Director of the Lombardi Cancer Center . During his tenure at Georgetown he directed the successful competitive renewal of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center core grant in 2002, a doubling of the NCI grant base of the Center, developed a multi hospital clinical trials network, founded a cancer screening facility for underserved women with Andrea Jung and the Avon Foundation March 9, 2004., a clinical cancer genetics screening program and developed new clinical translational research programs. He was the founding Director of the Delaware Valley Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (2008 - 2010) , and is currently the Director of the Kimmel Cancer Center , Associate Dean and Vice President Oncology Services, Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital, Philadelphia . The Jefferson Cancer Network includes 22 institutions and hospitals in the Northeast of the United States . He founded the biotech company AAA Phoenix, was president of INCTR (USA) from 2005 - 2010 .
