He was born on 18 December 1940 at village Ghasola in Bhiwani district of Haryana in India. His father was Chaudhary Chandagi Ram Dudee, who belonged to a Jat Hindu Dudi clan from an army family. His Grandfathers Hav. Harnarayan Singh & Ranjit Singh died in France 1914 during World War I serving in 1 BN Royal Jat Regiment. His grandfather Hav. HemRaj was also in Royal Jat Regt. His mother was Sarati Devi, a religious woman.
