Robert Jared Carpenter was the vice president of the Council of Republicans for Environmental Advocacy beginning in 2000. In 2007, he pleaded guilty to one count of income tax evasion. He and CREA president Italia Federici, who previously pleaded guilty on similar charges, had used CREA funds for personal use. He failed to file income tax statements for 2001 to 2003, during which time his accumulated income was $236,135. Carpenter, like Federici, was caught up in the FBI investigation of the Jack Abramoff Indian lobbying scandal. He was sentenced to 45 days in a halfway house and four years probation.
